Happy New Year!

Hope everyone survived a beautiful Christmas season and welcomed the new year with hope and excitement!

I want to thank Chuck Crane for offering to represent GSMR/LDC

at the Annual Meeting of AACA in February. He has very generously offered to forgo any payment from our club for his expenses instead asked us to give a check to AACA Building Fund. We will be glad to send a check to AACA. Looking forward to many adventures with our old cars in 2020. Especially our Annual Car Show at BRCC in June. If you would like to offer your shop or car collection for a garage tour this year, be sure contact Jim Mitchell or Steve Nordt.

Helga & I are enjoying Naples, Florida for a few months but looking forward to getting back to Hendersonville at the end of March. Keep the sunny side up and be sure to attend our January monthly meeting on the 21st at Mike’s On Main. Dinner at 6 meeting starts at 7. Our VP David Parker will be in charge and I know you will enjoy his meeting!!!

Enjoy!

Keith (President GSMR)

The 2019 GSMR/LDC Christmas Party was a real success, thanks to Lynn Nordt and her crew. Close to 50 members attended a beautifully decorated Cedars Restaurant.

Sad to report the Cedars is being sold and we will not be able to use this venue this year as we have for so many years. Sad! 🙁

The highlight of the evening was the presentation of the Gustafson Award to Lynn & Steve Nordt. Lynn has been responsible for organizing our Christmas Party for many years and has done a super job plus heading up the “Toys For Tots” program.

Steve has worn many hats, such as serving as President for three different years, organizing old car tours, working on the Lake Lure boat and antique car show (second year)

For those not familiar with this award, it is presented each year to a member or members who have served

our club above and beyond normal club duties. Lynn & Steve have done so much for our club and still continue to serve even through a recent family crisis

A BIG THANK YOU to Lynn & Steve!!! 🙂

Travels from the past.

These are post cards from the travels of the family of GSMR member Rebecca Parker. The dating appears to be the 1940’s and 50’s. Does anything look familiar?

In 1980 Mt St Helens erupted in Oregon. This photo has a story behind it. Click the link below the photo to find out how it came about.

Since the is not much to report on at the local level, the High Beam will include articles of interest to most old car fans:

What Would Santa Drive?

The Proposed American Graffiti Museum is in the news

Where were you in ’62?

A rendering of what part of the proposed museum would look like. The plan includes a functional drive-in restaurant patterned on Burge’s, one of the turnarounds on the Modesto cruise route of the ’50s and ’60s. Image via Graffiti USA Museum (ctrl click here for the full article)
